NYSSMA is the New York State School Music Association, who's mission it is to advocate and improve the education in music of all people in New York by promoting appropriate music activities and programs in the schools and communities of New York State.

Auditions are open to all band students who wish to participate. Students will be evaluated based on their knowledge of scales or rudiments (percussionists only), performance of a prepared solo (piano accompaniment is acceptable), and sight-reading which entails performing a short composition at first sight. The Adjudicator will provide not only grades, but constructive comments as well.

Please remember that this is not a competition between students. Each student is graded individually for their performance and proficiency. We would love to see all of our band students participate if possible.

All participating students must purchase two original copies of their solo compositions. Photocopies will not be allowed at the festival. Some selections include a second part.
