What Are Lessons All About?

People sometimes ask why we have small group lessons in addition to our regular band rehearsals. Good Question!!

Lessons are the heart and soul of the Bailey Band Program. Lessons are where students learn all of the skills and techniques they need to play an instrument successfully. Since each instrument is different, students need the opportunity to learn the specifics and receive individual help. This can't happen in a rehearsal group of 40-80 students!

Lessons are where all of the assessment of each student takes place. Students play weekly assignments to demonstrate their skills and understanding of musical concepts. If students have trouble with an assignment, they may receive additional help and practice.

This is when we really get to know the student and can offer additional help for specific problems or give enrichment materials to provide more challenge.

Band rehearsals are where group performance skills are learned and polished. Band lessons are where individualized teaching and assessment takes place. The combination of these two elements, rehearsal and lessons, is what has made the Bailey Instrumental program one to be proud of!
