Our Band
The J.Watson Bailey Middle School
Band, under the direction of Mr. Abrams, Mrs. Fraleigh, and now Mr. Shaught has grown from an enrollment of
40 students in 1991 to its current size of over 200 students. The band program currently
consists of the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands,
and the Bulldog Marching Band. All are award winners. There is also a Holiday Ensemble and a Jazz Band is also in the works. The Bands maintain
an active performance schedule, as do the students selected to perform
in our various ensembles, including public community performances, and
their annual elementary school and nursing home tour. The JWB Band program
presents two concerts each year.
Membership to the JWB Band is open
to all sixth, seventh or eighth grade students at JWB who have been recommended
by their elementary school teachers or by audition. Students should
be aware that certain instruments are highly competitive for band positions
(flute, clarinet, trumpet and percussion), and may result in participation
in our "lessons only" program. Students should show a desire to be
musically enriched, and be willing to work.
For more information about the requirements,
please visit the Handbook page.
